Sayari Gets Ready for New Platform and More Growth After Landing $228 Million Investment

TPG Growth, a big investing group, is putting a lot of money, up to $228 million, into a company called Sayari that deals with risk intelligence. They plan to finish the deal in the first part of this year after getting the green light from regulators. In this deal, the people who started Sayari, its workers, and the current investors will still own a big part of the company.

The CEO and co-founder of Sayari, Farley Mesko, thinks this investment from TPG Growth is a significant moment for them. He says they're changing the game in risk intelligence technology, and he's feeling positive about the future.

Sayari got going in 2015 and brought out its Sayari Graph platform in 2020. This platform digs into data from different places, like who owns what in companies and trade documents, and makes maps that show how different things are connected. For businesses keeping an eye on their supply chains, it helps them trace back through their suppliers to find possible issues, like environmental or regulatory concerns. People can also use it to check their supplier lists for possible problems.

Now, over 100 companies, including big names like Urban Outfitters and Facebook, are using Sayari Graph. It's also being used by public sector folks, like regulators, law enforcement, and national security teams. Mesko thinks that, especially in the clothing and textile industry, there's a growing demand for transparency across borders, considering the post-pandemic situation and geopolitical tensions.

TPG's investment is happening just after the news that Sayari is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Labor to help spot and investigate entities that might be involved in forced labor.

Sayari is doing really well lately. The demand for its tech is going up, partly because of stricter supply chain rules. In the past year, the company in Washington, D.C. has grown its international business by a massive 950%. In 2023, Sayari also got contracts in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and the E.U., covering areas like trade and forced labor. Last year, they made it to both the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 and Inc. 5000 lists, recognizing them as some of the fastest-growing firms in the U.S. thanks to a whopping 431% increase in revenue from 2019 to 2022. Mesko says they're investing a lot in their customers and expanding their team, aiming for 200 employees by the end of this year.

Apart from growing internationally and launching a new platform for supply chain insight, Sayari wants to hire more people for sales, product development, and support.

Mike Zappert, a partner at TPG, says companies face more risks as the business world gets more complex. He thinks Sayari is right in the middle of dealing with these challenges. He believes that Sayari's platform, built on unique data collected over the years, helps organizations understand new threats and gives them more power to protect the people, businesses, and countries they serve.

TPG got advice from Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC and Kirkland & Ellis for this deal. Sayari got advice from William Blair and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP. TPG Growth usually invests in startups, and they've put money in companies like Ipsy, Spotify, and Crunch Fitness. Zappert says TPG has been investing in information services and government tech for a long time, and they're excited to work with Sayari.
